Very true, it's all about GranTurismo - 5th Prologue and especially the true comeback of the real GranTurismo 5 did it for me to go back and purchase a PS3.
Last one was the original PS1 and the first GranTurismo - and other PS1 games.
Did'nt buy a PS2 and went the Microsoft way with XBox - because of PGR - PGR2, then XBox 360 - PGR3 - PGR4.
But now Sony/Polyphony is back again with a vengeance - and looks awesome, could have asked for more requested features ...

Another good thing to ask the salesperson is if the plasma/lcd screen has 100hz or if more the better.
And the refresh rate - 6ms could be your standard, but again the lower the better.

Plus makes it more entertaining and interesting read.
If the television networks in your country are beginning to/or has switched to HD-signal as most will, plus with a lot of good ( HD-ready and Full-HD plasma/lcd screens ) being sold now are getting very affordable ( again it depend on the country were you're living ), yes it will definitely be a good investment to buy one now.
Be warned though as most *HD-ready screens ( are cheaper but... ) need *HD-set top boxes to transmit HD-signal frequency which will cost you extra.

In a way, think their last promo helped to sell not just the console but a lot of ( Full-HD ) LCD screens as well.

It says Marantz though... for the extreme-end of the market who goes for pure quality in all fronts ( audio/video buffs, big studios and the likes ) and don't care about the price.
PS3 is well a PS3, it's versatile but never as a stand alone player - ( even most gamers' ) buy another Blu-Ray equipment for viewing movies.
It's good Sony was in the line-up, cause I just got me a Bravia Full-HD and thought, Wow! the pictures are really good.
I was just used to my old and trusted 12year old CRT tellie, and did'nt want to join the marketing hype surrounding Plasmas and LCDs.

The game has got to the point that it has become monotonous, boring, same old rehash etc... They should have seen that from the start.
The series has reached it's peak and there was'nt anymore that could be squeezed from this once glorious franchise.
They need to put this back in the cabinet for awhile ( possibly a few years ) get some new blood, put your innovative thinking caps on and move forward with a new game.

Uncharted can never be a Gears of War wannabe, Gears is just in a different league.
You can say though as a new developer the Uncharted guys have done it great, but to compare with another title way above the others in competition is not because it won't be able to prove it's mettle against Gears.

As for the matter of keeping your old dvd's, for now it's still a yes even if you already own an HDTV.
One, it's still the cheapest and most available format while HD-DVD, Blu-Ray disc have'nt got the number of titles available also it's ( still ) an expensive investment for ...
